After shifting from the role of an employee to that of a small business owner, I’m starting to notice more and more these imbalances in power which lead to poor alignment.
I think it’s great that you are trying to create a culture that is better aligned with your community. It sounds like a step in the right direction. At the end of the day though, isn’t it still a hierarchical system of power?
Power is concentrated at the top, and although you may choose to exercise it more benevolently than other business owners, there will always be forces pulling you (or whoever leads any company) off path.
Also, would love to hear your thoughts on co-operatives. I think they are great for customer-business alignment, but there are definitely cons as well.
