One Amazing Week

Monday Oct. 10: Watching Belgium’s national soccer team win is nice, giving a presentation to Belgium’s opinion leaders in the healthy aging space is better. This Monday, I got the chance to do both, as a delegation of LifeTechValley’s crème de la crème was visiting the Brookdale Redwood City community. They were introduced to Brookdale’s innovation tracks, Cubigo’s future vision and the specifics of the pilot we’re in the middle of rolling out in the community. Thanks for the opportunity, LifeTechValley!

Tuesday Oct. 11: About everyone in Europe must know Uber by now, but who knows Lyft? This is one of the big Silicon Valley start-ups and a major competitor for Uber, but with a sole focus on US and Asia. Given Lyft’s interest in healthcare transportation, the opening reception for Aging 2.0 OPTIMIZE’s conference was organized at Lyft’s offices. Being able to attend a reception at their offices, that’s like one step down from visiting Google, Apple or Facebook, but still one on the bucket list! Moreover, an interesting relationship is developing between Lyft and Cubigo. More on that early next year.

Wednesday Oct. 12: Aging 2.0's OPTIMIZE conference kicked off today. Our Cubigo booth didn’t stand out too much between all the high tech droids and wearables, but boy, how I felt the potential for Cubigo! Demoing our solution really opened eyes and both senior housing providers and home care providers could see how our platform could fit in with their operations. One provider even invited us to launch a similar entrepreneur in residence program as we’re doing with Brookdale right now!

Thursday Oct. 13: Today was meeting day at OPTIMIZE. Meetings with Brookdale, AARP, ComfortKeepers, etc. were on the agenda. While maybe a hundred times the size of the biggest players in Belgium, they welcome start-ups with open arms and see this entrepreneurship as their way to future growth. It cannot be surprising that the US is one of the most innovative countries, way ahead of Belgium, where big senior housing are still pretty wary of innovation.

Friday Oct. 14: How to finish a week like this in style? I guess a selection as one of the top eight most promising companies in the Pitch-4-Partners competition by Aging 2.0 does the trick? We didn’t win the end competition, but surely showed our name to the market again! And I guess that’s what this week was all about: showing the US market who we are and how we will change their world!
