Stop.Drop.Meditate.

Stop.Drop.Meditate started as a critique of the invasion of our private spaces by advertisers. Specifically, on our campus. We can’t even get a rest from constant reminders of to-do’s and to-buy’s in our most private space...like the bathroom stall. On the backs of stall doors lies a plastic holder where ads are placed so even when we are “attempting to relax” we cannot. Our brains must constantly be reminded that there is money to spend. To that I say, “No Way!” I finally had enough and decided to re-evaluate our private, relaxing time. I finally decided to replace that information with something truly important; mediation.

I used the how-to’s of mediation in order to help my peers experience some sense of relief from our stressful, hectic days. It started with flyers. These flyers read, “Stop.Drop.Meditate” and then details on how to get to your most blissful zen space. These were placed in the plastic holders where you would be able to learn and attempt meditation at your leisure.

After feeling as though the flyers couldn't spread information as quickly as I would hope, due to janitorial removal, I decided on a more effective route. I DIY-style assembled a series of 105 small zines. These zines had the same information but organized in a manner where you could take it with you and use it when you felt it was most necessary, no force. I distributed these zines in Manitou Springs, at UCCS, at PPCC Centennial Campus, Pikes Peak Library Dist. 14 and at some friends homes, unbenounced to them.

Stop.Drop.Meditate looks a bit like this.

This project is about allowing us to enjoy our quiet time. It is about knowing how to find our inner peace, keep that, and pass it on to our peers. It is time to interrupt the everyday hustle-and-bustle and appreciate something internal and beautiful we all possess.
