Announcing our first keynotes for Culturati Summit 2018: Basecamp’s Jason Fried & Wailin Wong

We have been busy securing great keynote speakers and panelists for Culturati Summit 2018 to ensure the program will challenge, inform and inspire you.

We’re thrilled to reveal two of our keynote speakers: Jason Fried of Basecamp and Wailin Wong of The Distance!

Jason Fried, Co-founder and CEO of Basecamp

Jason Fried is the co-founder and CEO of Basecamp, a software company based in Chicago. He is the co-author of Getting Real, Remote: Office Not Required and the New York Times Bestseller Rework. Wailin Wong is a writer and podcast producer at Basecamp. She previously worked as a business journalist at the Chicago Tribune and Dow Jones Newswires.

Wailin Wong, Host of The Distance, a Basecamp production

Wong is the sole reporter for The Distance, a podcast about businesses that are at least 25 years old. Some of our favorite episodes describe a Chicago laundromat that became a de facto community center by offering free pizza, immigration seminars, and children’s reading programs to patrons, an Atlanta barber shop with phenomenal employee retention (in a few cases, over 40 years!), and a family-owned manufacturing company that executed a seamless succession plan.

Basecamp’s purpose is not just to save time, but to make time at work better for its users. The goal of the product is also the goal of the company, and Fried’s investment in his employee’s ability to make the best use of time is not only evident in Fried’s books and TEDx talk on “Why Work Doesn’t Happen at Work,” but also Basecamp policies such as a 4-day workweek for 4 months of the year, and granting each employee the choice of where to work. Fried eschews the startup goal of exponential growth in favor of steadily building a private company that has been profitable every year.

Wong, with the unique perspective she’s gained as a reporter on long-term businesses, will be a great stage partner for Fried, who is striving to build a long-term company with an exceptional company culture. We can’t wait to hear what Jason and Wailin will discuss on stage, and we would really like to have you in the audience beside us.
