The Dublin Live Art Festival 2017
Top international performance artists to visit Dublin as part of the Dublin Live Art Festival 2017
The Dublin Live Art Festival is celebrating its 6th edition and has just announced its line-up for this years event. This year they promise to deliver four days and nights of hardcore performance art whilst continuing in their tradition of bringing some of the world’s leading performance artists to Dublin.
Base camp for the festival this year is the north-side’s premiere arts venue The Complex, off Dublin’s Capel Street, and the festival will run from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th of August. The events in The Complex will be running in conjunction with a number of pop-up performances planned for around the north inner city.
Highlights from this year’s festival will include the much anticipated first visit to Ireland of performance artist and activist Reverend Billy Talen….
Described by Forbes magazine as “the prophet of anti-consumerism, Reverend Talen was a one-time candidate for New York City mayor and the subject of the Morgan Spurlock film, “What Would Jesus Buy?
Another performance not to be missed will be that of the UK based artist Martin O’Brien. The artist, who lives with cystic fibrosis, creates work that challenges common representations of illness and examines what it means to be born with a life threatening disease.
Meanwhile a second U.K artist Rhiannon Armstrong who also makes work about her medical condition will be performing. Armstrong lives with a neurological disorder that forces the artist to lie down, wherever she happens to be.
Niamh Murphy, Director of Dublin Live Art Festival tells us:
“Our theme for this year’s festival is ‘come together’ and we have invited artists whose work crosses over into mainstream media, entertainment and culture. We encourage visitors to step out of their comfort zone and come be inspired.
Artists participating Dublin Live Art Festival 2017 are: Umama Hamido (Lebanon), Martin O’Brien (UK), Reverend Billy Talen (USA), Robert Hesp (UK) Gareth Cutter (UK), Johanna Zweig (NOR), Rhiannon Armstrong (UK),Amanda Coogan (IRE) and Irish performance collective Livestock.
