From The Line — A Win Is A Win
Last night looked like a Jekyll and Hyde scenario for the Raptors. At time is was fun to watch and others I just sat here and shook my head and wondered what was happening.
Here’s the fun..
Minus about 6 minutes in the 2nd quarter the first half was tough to watch. The Raptors seemed out of sorts both on defence and offence. The 76ers were able to slow down the pace of the game and take the Raptors out of their normal flow and it definitely showed. A lot of credit to the 76ers, they play hard, tough basketball. They scrap for loose balls, attack the glass on both ends, and dig in on defence. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a great coach in Brent Brown. He definitely gets the most out of his players. There is just so little talent right now in Philadelphia.
Back to the game though. The Raptors were able to dig in late in the 2nd quarter and put together a run to give themselves a 60–54 lead at half, highlighted by a MASSIVE redemption windmill from Terrence Ross. The 3rd quarter was more of the same. The Raptors came out and played their style of basketball. Digging in on D and executing on the offensive end. With a big lead heading into the 4th quarter I didn’t expect to see DeRozen or Lowry play very much. I was enjoying sitting on the couch and watching another blowout win for the Raps. Whoops! I was wrong. Another lapse in intensity for the boys. The 76ers battled to the very end, and I mean very end. Correct me if I’m wrong but the Raps were up 109–95 halfway through the 4th and Phili managed to spark a run foe themselves and brought the game to within 5. Lowry played the whole 4th quarter and had a couple big 3s. There is no way Lowry was going to let this one slip in his hometown. In the end they let the 76ers score 40, yes FORTY points in the 4th and managed to close it out and get the win.
DeRozen put up another 31 points (11–18 FG,9–11 FT) in only 30 minutes I might add. I could talk about his performance all day, he was unstoppable last night. Lowry was red hot once again from 3 going 5–10 from beyond the arc. The Kid from North Phili 20 points and 7 assists. Terrence Ross, who has been nothing short of fantastic this year might have heard about all the trade rumours and decided to shoot the ball that well but still managed to go 6–6 from the line. It should be noted that his maturity level is something to be talked about. He shot only 3–8 and 1–5 from 3 but he still attacked every chance he got. I love what I see from Ross.
The Raptors are off tonight. They head back home to face Atlanta Friday night. The Raptors have now won 10–11 and are 8–3 on the road. They are the clear cut #2 in the East in my eyes. I would expect them again to challenge Cleveland for that #1 seed.
If you’re looking for some Raptors again on a day off, check out the Raptors 905 tonight as they take on Oklahoma City at home. The game can be seen on the D-League Facebook page at 7:30ET tonight. The D-League offers great basketball with a lot of great talent.
That’s just my opinion though.
