How to be successful at school- Introduction
I went to a gifted students’ school and following that I got into one of the best universities in the world and the best in my country.
Of course, when you are surrounded by students who are high achievers, you think it is normal. But it is not. And this is what I found when I started doing volunteer jobs for disadvantaged students.
More surprisingly, even among the middle class and the elite families, I see a lot of students that do not perform well. Not because they are busy partying or they are lazy, because there is no proper subject at school to guide us. There is no subject that teaches students how to set up goals, how to get high grades. And basically, why they should get high grades. Is it just to make their mommy proud, or to make themselves anxious perfectionists. Or if there is something beyond that grade which students should try to achieve.
Of course, I searched to see what are good resources that I can introduce to my mentees, and help them during the chaotic years of adolescence. Unfortunately, I found tones of books and videos that are not complete or if you ask me, send a wrong message to the young students. What if someone is not a teenager anymore, can they still use those methods to get high grades?
So in this series of blog posts, I want to share what high achievers do. I am going to share methods that I studied from books, the ones that worked for me and my classmates, and the ones that worked for my mentees.
There is no one size fits all method, but there are some principles that I call them governing principles. I hope these blog posts will help any lost student to find their path forward to their goals.
And in the end, as you see I call it, “how to become successful”, because a successful person is not only the one that gets the top mark, although we will talk about how to do that. Being a successful person is beyond that. And never is too late to be one.
