Mobile App Boot Camp
Week 1: After setting up the classroom I had no idea what to expect, Tuesday came way too quick, the 4th of July was over and the real works about to begin. I didn’t quite know my roll what my expectation was or how this was going to work out.
We started out with intro’s who we are where we came from what brought us here, then we got an introduction to our babies (15" macbook pro’s). Being a Windows guy this wasn’t starting out well. We were told to open the terminal, an ls here a pwd there and i was back in the mindset of my previous life in unix. We talked about file formats, xml, html, bash… THEN IT HAPPENED <?xml version=”1.0" encoding=”utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android=”http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools=”http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width=”match_parent”
android:layout_height=”match_parent”
android:paddingBottom=”@dimen/activity_vertical_margin”
android:paddingLeft=”@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin”
android:paddingRight=”@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin”
android:paddingTop=”@dimen/activity_vertical_margin”
WTH is that!!!! I’ve written code before and this looks like it should make sense but i don’t have a clue what it meant. Shortly there after we were told our first assignment, recreate a google inbox flight itenerary.

Yeah I wasn’t ready…. I never completed my first assignment so this wasn’t looking good for me here. I decided to come in early to get caught up on what i missed, that didn’t work out to well either this was going downhill fast. Ok let’s try this again, I’ll stay late and work it out. GREAT IDEA especially since a few others had the same plan. We talked, bonded and worked on our projects and began to help each other understand what we were working on. Things were looking up, until the next day when we had to design our first APP… yes 3 days in and we’re creating an APP. I now know why it’s called a boot camp, tons of information each day. At least the syntax is making more sense now, I can read that first batch of code….
