Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.

-Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 9: The Kindly Ones

I had a chat with someone near and dear to me this morning and it woke something up in me that I already knew but needed to be reminded of.

Society has this way of making us feel like love is some big fairytale where all of the pieces fit together so perfectly.

Love is most definitely not that, but it is knowing that when something amazing happens in your life you want that person by your side.

Love is knowing that if you wake up tomorrow and he dies you will literally lose your crap.

Love reminds us of our faults by being so intricately entwined in someone else with faults of their own.

Surely love shouldn’t have to feel pressured, but love shouldn’t have to be a lot of things and it winds up being all of the things you think it’s not supposed to be somewhere down the line in a relationship.

What I am saying is, love is the imperfections of two people who are willing to compromise for the flicker of deep and unforgettable romance still left in their chests.

Don’t let the flicker of romance go out because of the way society and media portray love. Love isn’t easy, but a lot of things aren’t easy in this life.
