What Is Discord?

Discord is a platform where users can chat with others while seeking or creating communities for those with similar interests.

Despite most users being part of a gaming community due to its previous focus, Discord has now become home to many different communities. Some include school groups, anime enthusiasts, coding experts, subreddit communities and more. This special trait has allowed the platform to grow into something completely different, and has allowed more people to create something new. This guide will help you when making a community on Discord to make sure it stays in good shape for its life span.

Make Growth A Priority

Unfortunately, many users lose interest in further server development if engagement becomes poor. A main cause of this is a poor growth plan. Without users, many communities do not have much engagement. If you have a plan for further growth, you can grow your community effectively and ensure a healthy community.

Engagement

Many servers require patience when being made, which is why engagement is a great way to start. As you engage with a growing community, you will allow others to be welcomed into what you offer without awkwardly attempting to revive an inactive chat.

Staff

Many servers have a staff system with basic roles, most of which help the owner complete tasks, such as server advice, community setup and more. Having a crew with responsibilities (Moderators, Event Managers, Partnership Managers, etc.) can help maintain a safe, active, engaging and stress free community for both you and it’s members.

Entertainment

Most server members expect something unique to be in the community. Some examples are giveaways, events, special channels or bots. These special traits can give users another reason to join your server.

You should now have some basics on how to take control of a Discord community, and if you are seeking more, make sure to contact me on Discord (Cut Of Meat#0001)! I can hopefully assist you with some of these as an experienced server owner.

Server Owner Checklist

Things to think about to determine if you are fit for becoming a community server owner.

Are You Passionate About Your Server?

Hopefully, you are. A good owner usually has knowledge on their server topic, if its based on something like news or a tv show. In most servers, owners are users main source of assistance, so you play a huge part in making a community. If not, you shouldn’t be doing this. Sadly, without a passionate owner, things will go downhill.

Are You Doing This To Hold A Title?

If so, please do not continue. Doing something to hold a title isn’t a good way to continue your journey, and something not many people do when it comes to these types of creations.

Do You Know What You’re Doing?

Being a server owner can come with many risks, including difficulty with server members, issues that arise with growth such as difficult members and raids, and more. If you are not ready for the surprises that hit you, you should be more careful with how you proceed with your server if you intend to make it something else in the future.
