Day 86

I grabbed lunch with a good friend of mine’s from high school and will be rewatching Wonder Woman with a friend from work.

The pizza at Brixx was pretty darn good! I went vegetarian for the heckuvit.

And we just talked about life, getting each other up to date on what was happening in our lives and whatnot.

I’ve spent practically the whole day reading The Better Angels of Our Nature. It’s a captivating history lesson of how society has progressed and become more civilized over the past few decades, tracking patterns of violence in different countries and different groups of people (hunter-gatherer tribes and such).

I’ll update later on how the movie goes! Hopefully I’ll have an even more lasting impression of Wonder Woman upon watching it for the second time.

Bye for now!

Update: Wonder Woman was just as good as I remembered it being. I didn’t really notice anything new besides some excellent foreshadowing near the beginning of the movie.

As I was driving home through dimly lit roads, I thought a lot about how driving through the darkness was kind of like life — because the future is unknown and hurtles at you faster than you think it might. You only have a limited knowledge of what awaits you tomorrow, and signs along the road to guide you are the practices of faith you have to weather the journey ahead.

Or you could think of it as advice from mentors to help guide you along the way.

Religion is like the GPS that tells you where you’re supposed to go to get to your desired destination.

The only difference is that we’re all headed, ultimately, for the same destination. And that’s death.

So I guess learning to navigate unexpected twists and turns, avoid potholes, and try to stay on track is what matters most of all.

Not all of us are blessed with GPS’s. Or with a strong life philosophy or religion to guide us along the way.

But somehow, you just know that you’ll be alright. You’ll make it home to where your heart is, and everything else is inconsequential.

Aaand that’s all for today. Bye!
