ChatGPT has seen an unprecedented surge in user growth since its release, with an impressive number of users signing up each week. In fact, the rate of user acquisition is four times faster than its predecessor, Dall-E2, which took a month to reach the same number of users. This success has caught the attention of major players in the tech industry, with reports of Microsoft considering a significant investment of $10 billion, potentially valuing the startup behind ChatGPT, OpenAI, at a staggering $29 billion.

What’s ChatGPT and why the Hype?

ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art large language model (LLM) designed to generate text that mimics human writing. It is trained on a massive dataset of text, containing billions of data points, which allows it to understand and generate human language with a high level of accuracy. It can be used for a wide range of natural language processing (NLP) tasks, such as language translation, text summarization, and dialogue generation. It operates by taking input, such as a question, and providing a quick, accurate response in written form. This is possible due to its ability to understand the context of the input and its vast knowledge of the language.

The ChatGPT web tool is certainly impressive, but it is not without its limitations. One issue that users may encounter is that the service can become unavailable when there are too many requests. Additionally, there is a daily limit on the amount of usage that each user is allowed.

To overcome these limitations, a professional version of the tool, called ChatGPT Pro, is coming soon.

ChatGPT Pro — How to Join the Waitlist

The link to join the waitlist for the advanced version of ChatGPT is not prominently displayed on the official website. However, it can be found in a tweet from Greg Brockman, the President and Co-Founder of OpenAI, on his personal Twitter account.

When clicked, the waitlist link redirects to a Google form page where users can provide their email address and respond to a few questions about their intended use for ChatGPT and their desired pricing plan.

OpenAI is gathering feedback on pricing options for ChatGPT by asking questions such as:

  • At what price point per month would you consider ChatGPT to be too expensive to purchase?
  • At what price point per month would you consider ChatGPT to be priced so low that the quality may not be sufficient?
  • At what price point per month would you consider ChatGPT to be starting to become expensive and require some consideration before purchasing?
  • At what price point per month would you consider ChatGPT to be a great value for the money?

Does the Pro tier pertain to API access?

Pro tier does not pertain to API access, according to statements made by Greg Brockman. Instead, it will offer features such as:

  • Continuous availability with no blackout windows
  • Rapid responses from ChatGPT without throttling
  • Increased usage limits, with at least twice the amount of messages as the regular daily limit
  • Reduced instances of downtime.

What are you Willing To Pay?

The final price for ChatGPT Pro remains uncertain and will depend on the feedback received from users. Based on a poll conducted by @ScottKrs in the Twitter thread, in response to the sign-up list, it appears that $10 per month is the preferred pricing option for many users. However, the final pricing will depend on the feedback received from all users who sign-up and express their willingness to pay. It is always interesting to hear the opinion of people, so feel free to share in the comment section of this post what you would be willing to pay for ChatGPT Pro.

The introduction of a Pro tier for ChatGPT is not solely a means for OpenAI to generate more revenue, but a logical step for the company to take in order to continue to innovate and improve its technology. With more funding, OpenAI can invest in research and development to create new features and capabilities for ChatGPT. This, in turn, will benefit businesses and researchers who rely on the language model for their work, as well as typical users like myself who want access to the most advanced version of the tool.

One of the key benefits of the Pro tier is that it will offer always available service, with no blackout windows. This means that users will have access to the model at all times, which is crucial for businesses and researchers who rely on the tool for their work. Additionally, the Pro tier will offer fast responses from ChatGPT, with no throttling, which is essential for users who need to process large amounts of data in a short amount of time. Furthermore, the Pro tier will allow users to send as many messages as they need, which is at least 2X the regular daily limit. This will give users more flexibility and the ability to process more data. Finally, the Pro tier will have less downtime, which means that the service will be more reliable, and users can rely on it to work when they need it.

All in all, OpenAI’s introduction of the Pro tier for ChatGPT is a positive development, as it will allow the company to continue to innovate and improve its technology, which will benefit a wide range of users. I look forward to seeing the new features and capabilities that will be added to ChatGPT in the coming months and hope that OpenAI will also release API access for public use.
