V8 Makes Breakthroughs in ABI Strategies

When Google isn’t doing evil like shutting down Google Code, it works hard on advancing different areas of software development. In one such project, the V8 Javascript Engine, it’s taken the ABI concept into beta. “People should always use the latest version because software development is like the Chrome updater” This was handled by throwing the basic notation of ABI out the window and removing interfaces at will.

When asked about why they choose to ignore a proven ABI and versioning system, they scoffed “Google is a different from a lot of companies. We need to scale and that sometimes means radical changes.” Developers who do not welcome these changes are forced to bundle their own version, destroying the core concept of shared libraries. We will have more details on this story after compiling 4 packages that all have v8 bundled
