I would pay 100 bucks to anyone right now who could get the d.School to replace empathize with context. Or even contextualize, if you really love verbs.
How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Design Thinking
Christina Wodtke

This got some hackles up in a discussion forum. I believe Empathy is encompassed by context. Again, each stage/step is a body of knowledge. Empathize only recognizes the humans in the scenario. Context recognizes the environment, the ecosystem, the constraints, the business model, the history (including what has worked and what has failed in the past), the cultural assumptions… I’d be open to Compassionate Context (I’ve always preferred compassion to empathy in design anyhow) but part of being a Design Thinker is recognizing all problems live in a large CONTEXT.

It’s not enough to be user centered, you must be environment-aware as well.

Also, if someone’s only issue is a image caption, well I guess I’ve done a decent job.
