We shouldn’t put up with bad micromanaging CEOs nor bad micromanaging product managers. That’s why I wrote a book on OKRs; I believe leaders set vision, hire well, and trust their hires to choose tactics wisely.
I don’t know why you read that as giving up. Just because someone is bad doesn’t mean the role is bad. It means we train them or fire them.
