Review: Lots of reading. Reads like an encyclopedia or facts and stuff. Not a series of stories or anecdotes. Honestly, Star Wars diplomacy is model UN from Parks and Rec to real UN. A 12 year old as a queen, then a 22 year old diplomat? Sure, why not. And Jarjar can be a senator. Ludicrous.

Review: SATOW’S DIPLOMATIC PRACTICE — NOW IN A NEW CENTENARY EDITION FROM THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESSAn appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green ChambersFor anyone not previously familiar with it, ‘Satow’s Diplomatic Practice’ is a revelation and should occupy pride of place in any lawyer’s professional library, whether said lawyer is involved with diplomatic matters or not. Diplomatic practice, after all, has been and likely always will be, a core consideration in international law.This new seventh edition from the Oxford University Press celebrates the one hundredth anniversary of this distinguished — and happily readable — work of scholarship and anecdote, rightly regarded as a masterpiece. In its multiple editions published since Sir Ernest Satow first wrote it in 1917, it has certainly kept up with the times and the dizzying pace of social, technological and attitudinal change that has characterized the last turbulent century.Under the editorship of Sir Ivor Roberts, the previous edition of 2009 like this new edition, is reflective of its time, indicating clearly how much — and to what extent diplomacy — has changed. As Sir Ivor points out — to cite only a couple of examples — the focus of diplomacy has shifted in the direction of a global audience and global concerns.English has replaced French as the international diplomatic language and radical developments such as the Internet and social media have rendered diplomacy and diplomatic initiatives much more visible. (The new US President’s compulsive tweeting has, at least to some degree, bypassed and more than occasionally, sabotaged, traditional diplomacy.)But as Sir Ivor reflects, ‘international organizations and institutions are unlikely to emerge unchanged — and may not survive, but diplomacy and diplomats will still be required.’ As President of Trinity College at the University of Oxford and the former British ambassador to Yugoslavia, Ireland and Italy, he speaks with authority. Roberts is supported in the production of this work by the research and commentary of ten expert contributors, from Eileen Denza to Amal Clooney.
