Sangdong High School won 8–7 against Gangwon High School in the 2024 High School Baseball weekend league on the 17th.

It is the first victory in seven months since its foundation.

100 high school teams registered by the Korea Baseball Softball Association participated in the 2024 high school baseball weekend league co-hosted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Baseball Softball Association.

The league, which opened at Hoengseong Baseball Park on the 16th, will be divided into the first half of March-May and the second half of May-June, respectively, to determine the winning team.

Sangdong High School in abandoned Gwangchon is overcoming the crisis of closing schools due to a shortage of freshmen by converting to the first public baseball high school in Korea.

To this end, the baseball team was established with 14 freshmen in August 2023, and 15 more were recruited this year.

As it was selected as an autonomous public high school designated by the Ministry of Education in March this year, it plans to spur specialized education on sports-related career paths, including baseball.
