Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss

Not addressing the entertainment aspect, but the virtual bondage (pun intended) of workers is something I’ve been conscious of for a while.

As a bar against losing good people whose work I admire, I get personal contact details from anyone who does work for me. If it’s not satisfactory I can throw it away. If the work is good, I will have the number of a really good plumber/electrician/whatever, even after s/he is no longer dating the contractor’s sister and the contractor no longer uses that person.

AND — if I contact them directly for the next job, they don’t get their wages skimmed by someone who didn’t do a lick of work, and can start to build a clientele of their own.
