How I use Instagram: 10 instagrammers I follow, and why

One of the social networks I’ve been using a lot last months is Instagram. I’ve had an account (Cyberjuan) since 2012 but due to connectivity issues and a lack of a decent cell phone cam it’s not until last year that I’ve been able to explore and use the app.

I basically use Instagram to document what I see and what I like when I go on a tour or go travelling. Being that way I really don’t have a theme for my account as many social media gurus advise. I post sunsets, buildings, prehispanic ruins or graffitis.

But I do like to follow accounts with defined themes, which are usually the same I post about. Such accounts and those of friends and acquaintances, from real or virtual life, make up the majority of accounts that I follow, the rest of them are random, people who have followed me and I follow in reciprocity.

From all my followers I will list below 10 accounts I follow that have each of them different elements that make me follow them … even if they don’t follow me … ☺ I made the list while posting it, so this is not an exhaustive analysis of my followings, just what I remembered now.

1 — Walaad. Graffiti and more graffiti, from all over the world (I think), so I assume he reposts from many sources. He also posts animations made over some of those graffitis or other images. The account posts many times daily so if you like graffiti but not so much, well, you’ve been warned.

2 — Thomas Hawk. An american photographer and blogger. He posts very good photos (well, for my taste), generally two on a daily basis. His blog is a required reading for everyone who wants to be updated in photography and digital photography trends.

3 — Nepal Photo Project. This account was born in the wake of the recent Nepal’s earthquake. It is a group project documenting the earthquake effects and the relief measures, but also the little and important stories they find in the affected cities and on the road. They also have a Facebook page.

4 — Balazs Gardi. American photographer born in Hungary, he documents the everyday lives of diverse communities in great need, keeping an special interest in exploring the consequences of the global water crisis, which lead him to create the Azdarya proyect.

5 — Calcuchimac. Marco Schenone, the photographer behind the Calcuchimac nick, is one of the best photography sources about Cusco I’ve been able to find. The imperial city and its people is greatly represented here.

6 — Lord of Bones. It is not the Game of Thrones character, but a paleontologist posting dinosaurs and other fossils he founds or study. He does not posts as frequently as I would like but every post is well worthed.

7 — Willy Kuijpers. Traveler, music lover. A normal guy and good photos. As I would like to be.

8 — Lima la Única. David Pino, who is behind this account, is a great connoisseur of Lima, its corners and its history. He posts not only current Lima photos but also old photos of the Lima that it’s gone.

9 — Isabel Guerra. Photographer, journalist and also university professor. She posts images from her classes, her urban tours around Lima and her travels. Oh and photos of her dogs.

10 — Junior Raborg. Junior is a kid from Iquitos now in Lima, but he keeps posting photos of his beautiful city. He is also very active at igersPerú, igersIquitos and igersPucallpa.

Well, if you dare to follow any of the listees you will make them happy, so do not waste the opportunity. You can also follow me of course: Cyberjuan, Let’s have some interaction there!

Ps. I’ve been told to make a challenge of this, so … @misabelg1 and @raborg17… There you have it!
