I don’t think it IS like taking away your ‘right to not see things’. It’s more like someone walking into a shop or a library and demanding that posters and signage for stuff that doesn’t personally interest them be torn down at the owner of the building’s expense. When you visit a website, that does actually cost someone money. Why should a website owner pay for your entertainment or education?

If you don’t want to see ads, don’t visit websites that are funded… by ads. That includes Google.

I’d love to think that putting a ‘donate’ button on every website was a substitute for advertising. But I can’t see it working. People simply don’t appreciate the cost of internet infrastructure, let alone the cost of living for content creators.
