Safety Tips for Motorcycles Riders

So you have got your new shining two-wheeled cruiser, and you can’t wait to hit the road.

The excitement is for real.

But before you do it, there’s something important that we want to discuss with you.

It’s about your safety!

Riding a motorcycle may look easier than driving a car (and perhaps it is), it is also potentially more dangerous.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to die in a crash than people in a car.

And the risks are highest for first time motorcyclists.

The intention here is not to discourage you from riding motorcycles. Rather, it’s to create awareness about motorcycle safety among the beginners.

Below, we have put together some tips to help you stay safe on two wheels.

Wear Safety Gear

Safety gear includes helmet, gloves and protective boots.

riding a motorcycle

During your first months, you must always wear your full safety gear when riding a motorcycle. Later, you can choose to drop the gloves and protective boots, but helmets are still recommended. In fact in most states, riding a bike without a helmet is illegal.

Don’t Ride with a Pillion Passenger

These are your early days and you still need to learn a lot about handling and balancing your bike. As such, you are better off without riding with a pillion passenger. It can be dangerous for you and the person riding with you.

Take an Approved Safety Course

It is of utmost importance that you get to know your motorcycle well and how it behaves on the road. During the first few weeks, take an approved safety course. Once you develop your technique and have the confidence, you can then hit the open road.

Ride Defensively

Although, you should aim to ride defensively at all times, you should take extra care during your first months. Maintain a safe driving distance when riding with other vehicles on road. Don’t attempt to overtake. Always, observe, signal and then maneuver when switching between lanes. Slow down your speed when making a turn.

Ride Defensively

Your on-road safety is your responsibility. By keeping these safety tips in mind, you can avoid unfortunate incidents.

Ride safely and responsibly.
