Storing Your Classic Motorbike the Right Way
Passionate about classic bikes?
Being the owner of a classic motor bike has its perks. But it also means that you need to live up to the responsibilities that come with it.

After all, you don’t want to show off a beaten down, worn out vintage bike, do you? Storing your bike means you need to take care of several aspects such as external and internal body maintenance.
Caring for your bike the right way!
Vintage motor bikes are a lot costlier than brand new bikes which means you need to prepare yourself for the amount of time and money you’ll be investing in it.
To make sure you’re caring for your bike, you need to put in quite a bit of effort into it.
While they might not need a mechanic’s attention as much as a bike that’s in use you still need to take it there every few months to keep up with it’s washing, part replacement, painting etc. Remember, you can’t let rust eat away your bike!
Time to store
Storing away a vintage motor bike is trickier than a new bike. This is usually surrounded around security and maintenance. Vintage bikes are expensive and in-demand. This means that your classic Japanese motorcycle — the 1984 Kawasaki ZX900 Ninja — is very likely to be the object of envy, and even, theft.
Another thing that affects vintage bikes is the winter. Since their bodies are prone to damage caused by weather you need to make sure you’re keeping your bike away from snow, ice and strong winds.
So how do you store it?
Knowing where to store your motorbike is important. As mentioned, you need to make sure it’s away from any change in weather which would make it susceptible to damage. You can look into storing them in:
1- Motorcycle Garage
2- Cycle sheds
3- Ground and chain locks
You can also use extra options such as: electrical mounting plates or heating, lighting, wooden floor struts.
The process
Now that you know where you can store them, it’s important to know how you can do it effectively without making your bike susceptible to further damage. Here are some thing you need to make sure of when you’re storing it:
1-Keep the wheels off the ground.
2- Remove the spark plugs
3- Inject the cylinders with oil
4- Drain all the fuel out of the systems
5- Make sure your bike is cyclically charged.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll be good to go. Cover it up and you’ve got a well stored vintage motor bike!
