As I read this piece a single word kept screaming off the pages at me — Entitlement!

I am a fifty-year-old who worked my ass off to go to college without a high school degree.

I then worked for a company for a year and decided that I’d rather work for myself (a beautiful choice I get to make living in the US, with the help of capitalism) and worked hard for 2 years to get my company off the ground, in a field I was pioneering (read: no security or promise of reward). Again, my choice.

From my experience there is plenty of opportunity – I just helped two people I love and care about dearly start their own companies so they could escape the confines of the 9 to 5. I don’t understand where this thinking that “society owes you” something comes from — I certainly never had this point of view and it freed me from these kind of whining fits and motivated me to get out there and make my own mark — just as I had watched my parents and grandparents do. And it was Never about getting rich, and always about my adventure called “Life”.

Entitled whining may feel good, and in this internet age, garner you “likes” and “claps”, but it will never lead to the Freedom you say you desire and claim is unatainable in this system called capitalism. It IS attainable if you first realize no one is responsible for Giving it to you.
