If I were a hiring manager I feel that I would qualify for this position. Being that I have had previous experience in a dining room and being a waitstaff I feel that the job I was applying entails exactly what I was doing at my previous job. With the jobs being fairly similar, I would be able to fall into the way of things at Buffalo Wild Wings and those skills would help me prosper in the new position I was given.

First Day on Job! Dear Journal,

Dear Journal,

Today was my first day working at Buffalo Wild Wing and I must say it really is different! I’m so used to the older residents at the Bristal. Although the Bristal is an Assisted Living it is a high pace setting. All of the residents are so demanding it was a job that did truly did ask a lot of you. Luckily at BWW, things seem more calm. The crowds vary from time to time. Before actually going into work I was ver nervous still because its a new place but that quickly went away once I knew that i could handle what I was doing. The tables are just set up differently of course and they have a different way of dividing the sections but thats something I think I could get used to. I’m looking forward to going back in tomorrow! I met a few people today that work there that seem really nice and cool. Glad that I’m fitting in better than expected!

Talk Tomorrow,

Cyn

YELP of John Jay

John Jay College offers a variety of majors that are suitable for anyone looking into the criminal justice path. You will find that many of the professors know what they are doing and are only trying to bring out the best in you. Many of the professors I have had are very understanding and know that you are probably under a lot of stress. Not only that but they definitely do know what they are talking about. I have never before thought about Anthropology at all until I took a course on the topic in my first semester and I fell in love and it is now one of my majors. I owe it all to my professor. She definitely made the class worth while and made it exciting to come to class. Not only are the professors a plus but so are the programs. John Jay offers many BA/MA programs that with the right academic standings you would be able to enroll in that as well. Another interesting thing that many people do not know about John Jay is that they offer dorms as well. I dorm with the school, the dorms for the school are on 34th St and they are the best! I love being at the dorms because you’re at the heart of the city where everything happens. Its amazing waking up everyday and walking to school on a nice day because its not too far or taking the train for only 15 minutes because the commute isn’t time consuming. I know that a lot of the other schools have some or all of the things I have mentioned about this school but there is something about the school that just catches the eye. I would recommend this school to anyone and everyone. Take a chance and think John Jay.

Atmosphere Exercise

Who doesn’t love 8ams and halls filled with silence. Walking into the halls of John Jay on your way to your dreaded 8am is always somewhat serene. Walking up the turned off escalators to get to the third floor always acts as a small workout session for me. I enjoy the peaceful hallways and the tired faces of everyone i pass by in route to their classes. Everyone with coffees in their hands and earphones in their ears. The tranquility of the school at this time in the morning can be described as a walk on the beach in the morning because you can actually take a moment of silence and distance yourself from all the loud honking and yelling just outside of those main doors.

Restaurant Review Take 1

One of my favorite things to enjoy in life is a great meal. So much so that I have gone out of my way to eat at well known high end restaurants. Although nothing that I have ever tasted or eaten could have prepared me for this hidden treasure. When I first walked in I was amazed by the beauty within and throughout this place. The lighting was amazing. As I walked further in the lights went from very high to a nice dim. Some tables were under the nicest array of fluorescent lights, while others were lit by candles that seem to have a glow about them.

As I finally sat at my table I couldn’t help but admire all the truly beautiful people enjoying their meals. It was also visible to me that the decor was something new that can quickly catch on. A mixture between old and new yet full of class.

Once I took a look at the menu I quickly realized why my friends all raved about this place. The prices weren’t high, and they had a variety of dishes they knew I would enjoy. I finally made my choices, for starters I had stuffed mushrooms and crab cakes. The main course I decided would be the surf and turf. Dessert was easy as can be to decide for since it came in samples of threes. Once I placed my order I just sipped on my perfect Cosmopolitan with a hint of lime and soaked the place in.

My appetizers came in a lovely light green square plate that made the stuffed mushrooms look like flowers waiting to be devoured. I took my first bite and was taken aback by how juicy it was. All of the favors came together and none of them out powered the other. Then I tasted the delicious crab cakes that are to die for. The crab meat was tasty and not rubbery. As I savor end my last bite they walked over with my surf and turf cooked to perfection. The chef out did himself I thought but what if he was a she. I stopped thinking as soon as I smelled my steak and enjoyed my first bite of the lobster tail. It was buttery, soft and every bite filled with a hint of cilantro. On to my steak rare my favorite. It was so juicy I didn’t want it to ever finish. Seasoned with a hint of thyme, onions and mango to give it a hint of sweetness.

Overall the place is stunning. Best part they have an excellent chef. Great tasting food and a great ambiance. Highly recommend this place for romantic dinner or sit by the bar area and enjoy great appetizers.

Restaurant Review Take 2

The actual entrée’s were priced anywhere from $15-$30. Although those prices may seem a little high for some, I can guarantee that the portions are worth the price. The plates were big enough to share and if you share you can definitely slice that price in half. I finally made my choices, for starters I had stuffed mushrooms and crab cakes. The main course I decided would be the surf and turf. Dessert was easy as can be to decide for since it came in samples of threes. Rasin Meditation

What is rasin meditation? Well in my class we had to just take a few rasins and keep them in our mouth without chewing or swallowing them for as long as we could. In my meditation it was very difficult to wrap my head around the idea of not chewing the rasin. Once I finally got the concept, I began to notice things about rasins that i’ve never noticed before. For example, the outside of the rasin has no flavor! It’s only when you bite into it that you get the burst of flavor. I also noticed that the rasin gets very soft when it sits in your mouth for a while; you can actually move it around and feel the shape of the rasin changing. It is actually quite relaxing to have the rasin in your mouth while meditating, it gives you a moment to focus in on the rasin and not everything else thats going on around you.

Argument Notes

  1. How old should you be to wear make up?
  2. Should people stop wasting their money on overpriced coffee? Make it at home!
  3. Should we raise the drinking age? Teenagers are going to get a hold of it either way.
  4. Should your privledge to drive be taken away at a certain age?
  5. Can we ban cars from driving in NYC?

I ended up picking the first topic. I picked this topic because I felt that it was something I could relate more closely to. With working at a makeup store before I felt that i would be able to add some insight and personal experiences to my paper that I wouldn’t be able to do for my other topics.

Argument Essay Take 1

The reasons behind why women wear make may be many. Why and how much make up one wears differs from individual to individual. We live in a day an agar where women are not the only ones putting on “their face”. “What is the real reason for putting on your face”? (Khazan 2014).

First and foremost, to answer the why. Many women that I know and have spoken to state they wear makeup because it makes them feel more attractive. It makes them feel beautiful. One thing though, is that everyone’s perception of beauty is not the same. Therefore are we doing it for our own self esteem or how others perceive us. If we do wear it, how much makeup is enough?

Most of the women I know have a ritual to applying makeup and amount of time allotted on a daily basis to beautification. How much money do they invest in the type of makeup they purchase ? One thing I found was that makeup isn’t so cheap. Well good makeup that is. I remember when I was little my mom got her makeup from the pharmacy. That’s a little too cheap for me. I don’t Mind Spending a little extra on my makeup. I always watch and read what I buy because there are makeup products that damage your skin and cause breakouts.

Another woman say the use makeup ,is because it makes them look healthy. For me I don’t really get this reason. According to Khazan “ blush makes us look healthier and foundation makes us more symmetrical”. In a research done by Alex Jones at Bagnor University found that “ most people thought models looked best when they were only wearing 60 % as much makeup as they had applied”.

Still, in an age wear even men are wearing makeup whether it’s because they are performers or just self conscious. In this day and age of high beauty standards it’s comforting to know that the only people that expect us to look flawless at all times and made up are ourselves.

Argument Essay Take 2

The reasons behind why women wear make may be many. Why and how much make up one wears differs from individual to individual. We live in a day an agar where women are not the only ones putting on “their face”. “What is the real reason for putting on your face”? (Khazan 2014).

First and foremost, to answer the why. Many women that I know and have spoken to state they wear makeup because it makes them feel more attractive. It makes them feel beautiful. One thing though, is that everyone’s perception of beauty is not the same. Therefore, are we doing it for our own self esteem or how others perceive us. If we do wear it, how much makeup is enough? Another thing that brings controversy about makeup is, when is the right age to be wearing makeup?

Most of the women I know have a ritual to applying makeup and amount of time allotted on a daily basis to beautification. How much money do they invest in the type of makeup they purchase? One thing I found was that makeup isn’t so cheap, especially if you want good quality makeup. But of course, expensive makeup does not always mean quality make up. I remember when I was little my mom got her makeup from the pharmacy. That’s a little too cheap for me. I don’t mind spending a little extra on my makeup. I always watch and read what I buy because there are makeup products that damage your skin and cause breakouts.

Makeup is an art, and with this art comes great responsibility. Just because someone knows how to apply makeup does not mean they know how to take it off. Often people do not properly take care of their skin after removing all of the visible make up from their face. It is always necessary to deeply cleanse your face afterwards. With having worked at a makeup store before, I have had many clients that did not understand why it was necessary to clean their face. I remember an experience when I was doing a client’s makeup and she said “I love when I get my makeup done because it lasts for three days!” I was appalled! How could this woman, in her mid 20’s not know how to take care of her face!

Other women say, the use of makeup, is because it makes them look healthy. For me I don’t really get this reason completely, maybe its because you don’t see all of the blemishes the face may have? Who knows. According to Khazan, “blush makes us look healthier and foundation makes us more symmetrical”. In a research done by Alex Jones at Bagnor University, found that “most people thought models looked best when they were only wearing 60 % as much makeup as they had applied”. Should this be a reason that people as young as 12 want to start wearing makeup? Many stores that are kids clothing lines are now expanding their store to incorporate makeup as well. Making commercials that promote the use of the make up. Many people and parents have been upset with these commercials because they believe that their kids or people with ages as low as 12 should be that concerned with their appearance to find the need to wear makeup. I agree with the parents in this case.

Pre-teens and teenagers aren’t ready for the art of makeup and the responsibility that comes with it. Teenagers shouldn’t be so focused on hot to contour their face, they should be focused on more important things, like school. When I was 12–14, my mind was no where near makeup! I didn’t start applying makeup until I was about 18. I felt like that was the perfect age because I was able to grasp and understand why everything is done the way it should be done.

Still, in an age wear even men are wearing makeup whether it’s because they are performers or just self conscious. In this day and age of high beauty standards it’s comforting to know that the only people that expect us to look flawless at all times and made up are ourselves.

Rhetorical Analysis of Argument Essay

1. I used questions to determine begin a new topic and establish other issues with young people wearing make up.

2. I used quotes of statements people have said to me to support some of the key points I was trying to establish such as people not knowing how to take care of their make up and their face.

3. I used personal experiences to give examples of some of the situations I have encountered to show that some people do not know what they are doing.

My Writing Process

In the beginning stages of my argument essay I really had no clue what to argue about. One day after going through the newsfeed on my Instagram i saw an ad for the store “Justice,” which is a children's store, and I saw them advertising make up. I was shocked that a store for children and preteens was coming out with a make up line! That’s when I decided to do my essay on make up. After reminiscing the times I spent at the make up store I worked at I knew that I would be able to pull off this essay. To give my essay a little push I included some of my personal experiences. I think this essay came out well and I got my argument across.

Food Memoir Ideas

1.Terrible Twos: First time having shrimp and figuring out that I was allergic to it and ALL seafood and a lot more!

2. Butter Fingers: Greasy Chinese Take-Out + Oil filled hands + Glass cup = Very Angry Papito

3. Feeling 22: Went out to dinner with family; I am 5 years younger than my sister and when we ordered drinks she got IDed and I didn’t

4. The art of grilling: My favorites about my moms grilling and the adventure of seasonings (first time taking interest in my mom cooking)

5. Everyone suffers: My mother is very big on customer service. All it took was one bad experience for her never to step foot into Dominos again…. I haven’t had Dominos in 9 years.

Food Memoir

Whether there is rain, snow or sunshine, whether it’s cold or hot nothing beats the smell of food being grilled. My memories or recollection of the very first time I saw my mom grilling are vague. One thing I do know my mother never lets anyone near her grill. She always manned the grill at our family cookouts or get together. My mom loves her grill, yes I said loves. When I come home and see that the grill is on I know a great meal is on its way.

First and foremost is the seasoning of the meat. My mother is very secretive about what seasonings she uses. The meat is seasoned and prepared the evening prior to the grilling. I know eventually she will probably give me all of her secrets but for now I am ok with just savoring every bite of the flap steaks she grills. The steak is tender and juicy as soon as it hits the taste buds in my tongue I feel like I am in Heaven. I don’t blame my cousin Judy for trying to trick my mother into giving her recipe.

Secondly, I definitely need to include my mother’s famous yellow rice. For some the rice is the highlight of the meal. The yellow rice is expected by all that come to our cookouts. Her recipe to the seasoning of this famous yellow rice is top secret. I can tell you though for me, I love the tiny “fideos” in the rice. Fideos are tiny tiny noodles incorporated in her well-seasoned and tasty rice. You may be wondering why she needs to season the rice all I can say is I’ve never had yellow rice as delicious as my mother’s yellow rice.

Now for some grilled veggies! My mom loves grilling sliced zucchini squash yes and those too get seasoned. She never grills them to the point where they are dry. Those too are juicy and tasty when they hit your mouth. Whenever she is not grilling zucchini squash then she will be grilling asparagus. Actually think I enjoy grilled asparagus once in a while.

Another thing that my mom makes when she is grilling is a salad we call “chirmol”. There is no translation for the name of this salad but none is needed once you taste and eat it.

This salad consists of chopped tomatoes, cumbers, cilantro and onions. My mom chops the onions so fine that you can’t even see the onions in the salad. The salad is seasoned as well no dressing, no oil or vinegar either. Lime juice replaces the dressing with a hint of Worchester sauce and salt. Many add this salad to their rice but not my mother she adds this to her steak. Oh and I can’t forget my cousin Abby this salad is her favorite. We have to hide the salad from her because she will have entire bowl by herself. Not a small bowl, a large bowl. He face lights up at the sight of freshly made “chirmol”.

We have shared many great times eating delicious and great smelling food. No matter if it’s just a few of us or my entire family which consist of over 50 people a great time and a great meal is had when my mother shares her art in grilling.

Rhetorical Analysis of Food Memoir

1. I repeated a phrase to emphasize the amount of love my mother has for grilling. “My mom loves her grill, yes I said loves.”

2. I list the ingredients of a a famous Hispanic salad to add some visionary details. “This salad consists of chopped tomatoes, cumbers, cilantro and onions.”

3. I used examples of the type of weather that my mother would grill in to show that she does not care what it looks like outside because if she is in the mood to grill, SHE WILL GRILL. “Whether there is rain, snow or sunshine, whether it’s cold or hot nothing beats the smell of food being grilled”

Recipe With Attitude!

Eating is one of my favorite things in the world! I eat siting down, standing up and even while walking. I eat when I’m hungry sometimes when I’m upset but nothing beats eating when I’m happy. See it’s all in the attitude! What is attitude? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary Attitude is defined as: the way you think and feel about someone or something. For me Attitude can be positive of negative. Since I am a “my glass is full type of person”. So since we are talking about attitude, I think it’s fitting to talk about one of my favorite recipes with attitude. My mother’s famous “Sanguches De Pollo” or in English chicken sandwiches.

First and foremost, let’s cut to the chase and get the music pumping. The louder the better. We have our spirits up so it’s time to start. We begin with the ingredient’s. Chicken, Adobo, onion powder, garlic powder and a hint of salt every Hispanic household has these in their covert. From the fridge we will need mayonnaise and mustard. Oh and we dare not forget the paprika. Some of the veggies used in this recipe are three tomatoes, one onion, one pepper, one medium sized cabbage, three cucumbers, six radishes, four beets, a bunch cilantro, two bunches of watercress and carrots. There are two types of breads that can be used but we will be using Portuguese Rolls. This sandwich is one of the healthiest meals you will ever have. On that let’s get to cooking.

Secondly, chop up a tomato, an onion and a pepper put it in the blender along with about a quarter of the cilantro. Add 3 tea spoons of mayonnaise and mustard a dash of paprika, onion and garlic powder a hint of salt about a teaspoon of adobo and a beer, yes a beer trust me. The beer will give it a kick. Blend it until it is liquefied. You will use that to season three chicken breast two thighs and four drumsticks. Mix everything together put it in a stock pot with cook for about forty to fifty minutes checking on it every fifteen minutes and mixing it to make sure nothing is burnt or stuck on the bottom of the pot. While all of that is cooking and you are jamming to the loud music you can work on the next step.

Thirdly, you have to peel the cucumbers and slice them as thin as you can in a round shape. Do the same with the tomatoes, radishes and beets. Once you have finished dicing them place them in a nice large round plate. Rinse out the watercress thoroughly. You will shred the cabbage and carrots soak them in boiling water add some salt and vinegar then drain it. Once you drain all the water and vinegar out of it add a tablespoon of mustard and mayo and mix. We are getting close to the finished product and to think all of this work for just one meal.

The fourth step is putting it all together so how do we do it. Brace yourself, slice the Portuguese roll in the middle dab, ha ha dab like the dance, some mayonnaise and mustard on the roll then add the mixed cabbage, beets, tomatoes, cucumbers, watercress and last but not least the chicken. Make sure to top it off with some of that delicious gravy. I’m sure your mouth is watering right about now, which means one thing you have to take a bight out of this sandwich.

Last but not least come the yummiest part of this part of the recipe. The tasting and eating part of the finished product. But, before we get there let’s just think about the attitude again. There is a lot of positive and happy attitude needed when consuming such a delicious sandwich and a great piece of work. Let’s sit back relax, put a napkin around your neck get your hands ready for the juicy drips of gravy that will come out of this Sanguche De Pollo once you take the first bite. Now take a second and a third, maybe a fourth until it’s all gone.

Once you have savored the last bite, remember to write or post your review. A chef loves reading what people have to say about their recipes. So please do not hesitate in writing something with a little pizazz and just enough attitude.
