Why the world needs deep generalists, not specialists

Hey Aytekin, cheers for a fascinating piece! :)

I agree, there’s so much value in exploring many different fields. I used to get frustrated about having so many interests when I was in my 20s, but over the years, I’ve found so many wonderful ways to connect these experiences. It has given me an edge many times, helped me be more adaptable, open-minded, and creative. It’s also helped me work in jobs in many industries.

I have found it useful to start specializing as well as generalizing too :) Focusing deeply in a few areas can help us gain insights we wouldn’t have realized if we just understand it superficially. But then having the generalist perspective allows connections we wouldn’t necessarily make if we specialized so much that we shut ourselves off from exploring. The combination is powerful.

An awesome benefit is the diverse range of people you meet along the way!

Thanks for sharing Aytekin, I really enjoyed the read :)
