Best Selling Book Author and recipient of the National Book Award, Cynthia Castro, finally puts away the pen after her extensive 20 years of writing bilingual children’s books.

Castro is a California born and raised children’s books author with an extensive career in Central California. She has written more than 25 bilingual books in English and Spanish.

She started her career in her home office she recalls “I was working on my desk one morning drinking coffee” when she noticed her children “They were pretend reading a Spanish and English book to their stuffed animals.” Castro chuckled.

She attended California State University, Bakersfield to pursue a career in Journalism with a minor in Spanish. After writing her Best Selling Book, No Way Jose, she won the National Book Award.

Castro has been happily married for over 40 years to her husband Eric and the two have two children Kenyah and Zachary. Her children and community have been her inspiration in writing bilingual books.

Not only have her books been popular and greatly accepted in the English/Spanish speaking communities but more than half of her published books have been translated into other languages as well. Her most recent best-selling book I Am Great has been translated in French/English. It is projected to hit the shelves by the end of this month and has already 3,000 pre-orders online.

She wanted her children to learn English but not to forget their native language “ It was important for me to keep our native Spanish language alive, and reading bilingual books was the perfect way!”

Castro plans on traveling the world reading her books to children and promoting literacy through her foundation Fundacion Leer Es Poder. “ I believe that every child in the world should learn to read and have a book in their hadn to read to their stuffed animals.”
