Education is one of the keys 🔑 to the growth and transformation of the African continent. Sadly, most African countries are still struggling to provide quality education to her citizens. Another challenge currently faced in some African communities today still remains poor investment in girl child education. In rural communities, higher proportions of girls than boys do not progress beyond their secondary school education. This gap has resulted in unequal distribution of males and females in key 🔑 positions such as in leadership, policy making, management offices and others.
To bridge this gap, there was a need to change the orientation of these secondary school girls and make them see the importance of acquiring university education and hence compete favourably with males.
This led me to organise training workshops for students of Akashiede Girls Secondary School, Obiaruku, Delta State, Nigeria. The workshops which were conducted in April 2017, was on: "Investing in Women and Girls — Sexual and Reproductive Health Education". Through this project, I coordinated the training of over 105 female students of the institution. I educated them on why they should aspire to acquire university education, as this will empower them, make them more competitive and productive in the long run, reduce gender inequality, help them make good decisions regarding family planning and nutrition, ensure that they get decent job and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
My project was executed in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10.
