Many of the posters here are simply showing their bias, their misogyny, their lack of knowledge of Swift’s career/songs/achievements, or a combo of all three. Her music might not be your cup of tea & you don’t have to like it, but to have a meaningful discussion and comment on this piece requires a level of objectivity. She has long proven these are worthy names to compare her with - on sales and touring, on talent and writing, on career, etc. But to those questioning her song-writing talents, please take note: Rolling Stone has named her to its “100 Greatest Songwriters of All-time” list (the youngest included); & the UK’s The Guardian has named her #16 on its “60 Greatest Female Singer-Songwriters of All-Time” list (again, the youngest included). These are not insignificant publications or distinctions. She’s the youngest ever Grammy Album of the Year winner (and 3 of her 5 albums have earned nominations in this category - a pretty rare distinction, especially when you consider this has happened within only 5 years), has 6 other Grammys, and is currently nominated for 7 in 2016 with a lifetime total of 29 nominations by age 25. Her second album is the most awarded country album in history and she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame by age 22 & has won the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International’s Songwriter/Artist of the Year award 7 times. Her accolades therefore speak for themselves with regards to her musical and songwriting talents. Not to mention the raving endorsements from iconic musicians: Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Reba McIntyre, Dolly Parton, Allison Krauss, amongst others. She’s been in the industry and setting records and making waves for 10 years already - so the idea that she’s some “flash in the pan” is ludicrous. There is no doubt that time will show her to be as memorable as the other artists mentioned here - she’s already iconic enough to warrant the comparison.
