Dymension — The Path Forward
After Dymension was first introduced we now feel it is time to provide the community an initial plan moving forward. It is important to note that actualizing Dymension’s vision is a highly complex and challenging mission requiring self scrutiny and agility. Hence, the timeline and steps presented here are not to be seen as a strict timeline, but instead as our current vision on the way forward subjected to possible adaptations in the future.
As a first step a vanilla Cosmos testnet chain will become live. Members of the community who are interested to operate as validators are invited to use this testnet to prepare for the following mainnet launch. This chain is designed to become the future settlement layer of Dymension, as future execution layers (rollups) will be deployed on top of it.
Next, a flagship rollup — execution layer — will be deployed in a trusted environment, meaning the sequencer will be centralized by default and a fraud dispute mechanism will not yet be implemented. This stage as all others, will include a succession of a testnet followed by a mainnet launch.
Later on, an SDK for spawning rollups (RDK) in a trusted environment will be published (testnet followed by mainnet), and a compatible upgrade to the network will take place. The final stage, the ‘Checkmate’ upgrade, is transitioning to a non-trusted environment; It is at this stage we will once again look forward to a community effort in testing the dispute mechanism prior to mainnet launch.
In our next articles we will address and share our unique architecture and design choices of various implementations including our plan for bootstrapping and distributing a token to align incentives in a sustainable and fair fashion, all of those will eventually come together to form a detailed technical litepaper, pre-testnet launch.
