January Letter 2.0:
Made Up Wordsrecently celebrated the coveted publication milestone of 1,000 followers! Thank you for helping us prove that fiction — those works of the imagination that are, as Bruno Bettelheim once pointed out, unreal but never untrue — can be a meaningful part of your weekly reading.
You can always find the most recent stories featured at the top of our page, so make sure to visit in case you’ve missed anything. It’s been a joy for us to see the way that this month’s re-launch stories have resonated with you. A sprinkling of reader responses:

We are open for submissions from February 1st through February 7th. During that time, we are interested in all types of subject matter, but will take special note of work that reflects the theme of:
“Ring the bells that still can ring / Forget your perfect offering,” wrote the brilliant Leonard Cohen, “There is a crack in everything / That’s how the light gets in.”
As we begin to thaw out from Winter, we invite you to share your stories of renewal, hope, and light. Turn your thoughts to Spring — to the granting of unlikely wishes, to a rough start with a grand finish, or to a proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes. Please note that we’re working to diversify the voices you hear at Made Up Words. Women, people of color, LGBT-identified, and others who are marginalized by our culture are encouraged to submit their work.
