The problem with traditional cryptocurrency wallets, is that they are often a bit too complicated to use for regular people. I have personally already lost track of how many friends have asked me to explain crypto wallets to them. You have these long addresses that you need to enter correctly & then there’s the issue of adding the correct amount of fees.

With TurboWallet, sending and receiving cryptocurrency is made easy. A lot of people are already using instant messaging apps, such as Discord and/or Telegram, on a daily basis. What if you could just use those messaging apps to instantly send money to your friends? Now, that would make things a whole lot easier, right? The benefit of having a cryptocurrency wallet straight into your favorite messaging app, is that you don’t have to go through the trouble of installing external wallet software.

The TurboWallet DApp does just that, it enables people to send cryptocurrency to their friends, without having to bother with complicated crypto addresses. You can send one of the supported cryptocurrencies, by using your friend’s username as their address.

This is what makes TurboWallet one of the top wallet DApps on the State of the DApps platform in 2019!

TurboWallet Usage Statistics

State of the DApps provides a clear, easy-to-use interface, to monitor usage statistics of any given DApp. In the wallet category, TurboWallet currently takes up the 4th spot among 93 other wallet DApps.

How To Use TurboWallet

You can use TurboWallet on Telegram and Discord, the process of sending cryptocurrency to your friends is extremely easy and straightforward. On TurboWallet’s main website, you can choose to either join the TurboWallet Telegram group or their Discord channel. Once you click on either of the buttons displayed in the image below, you will get prompted to open an invite on your Telegram or Discord app.

Now you should have joined the TurboWallet group/channel on either Telegram or Discord. While you can certainly use the TurboWallet DApp in the main public chats, I would suggest to open up a private message with the TurboWallet bots. By doing this, you can keep all your transactions private.

On Telegram, you just left-click on the TurboWallet username and then click on ‘send message’. You’ll see TurboWallet in the main chat, so it’s pretty hard to miss. Now you can PM the TurboWallet bot and execute all the commands without them being public.

On Discord, the process is similar, you just right-click on the Turbo username (Which has a Bot tag) on the right-hand side and then click ‘Message’. Again, now you can PM the TurboWallet bot and execute all the commands without them being public.

Okay, now you’ve successfully set up TurboWallet on your preferred instant messaging application, you can start sending one of the supported forms of cryptocurrency to your Discord/Telegram contacts.

Supported Coins

Sending & Receiving Cryptocurrency

Before you are able to send tokens to people, you first need to deposit tokens into your TurboWallet account. When you type in the /deposit [TOKEN] command, you will receive a wallet address where you can deposit your preferred forms of cryptocurrency.

The command structure for sending cryptocurrency to your friends is really easy to understand. I recommend first typing in /help in Telegram or Discord, that will display all the available commands. As you can see on the screenshots below, sending cryptocurrency is done by typing in /send AMOUNT [TOKEN] to [@USERNAME] (OR 0xADDRESS).

The TOKEN part obviously refers to your preferred token, you can send any of the 4 supported tokens, which are mentioned above.

The @USERNAME part of the command, refers to the Discord/Telegram account name of the person you want to send cryptocurrency to. The TOKEN part obviously refers to your preferred token, you can send any of the 4 supported tokens, which are mentioned above.

You do not need to type in [ ] when you enter the commands

Your friends will receive a notification from the TurboWallet bot after they’ve received the transaction. In some cases, their privacy settings may interfere with receiving these messages, but rest assured, they will have received the payment. They can just start their own PM with the TurboWallet bot to have access to the funds they’ve received.

Support for Crypto Collectibles

TurboWallet’s website mentions that it has full support for crypto collectibles, but I’ve had trouble with this feature. They advertise being able to buy crypto collectibles with the /buy command, but this only seems to work for ROBOT crypto collectibles.

It doesn’t help that the ROBOT website seems to be down, so I have no idea what the status of that project is.

This functionality seems to be a work in progress to say the least.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

When it comes to cryptocurrency bots for Discord, this is not exactly the best one I’ve come across yet. It only has limited support for different cryptocurrencies, in that regard DiscordTip is much better and more widely used.

That said, it does have some redeeming features. It’s very handy that you can use the same bot on Discord and Telegram, the commands are the same on both messaging apps & it does shine with its simplicity.

Now, the fact that there is almost no documentation about their crypto collectibles feature worries me a little bit. On TurboWallet’s website, they link to non-existent websites (ROBOT) & it doesn’t seem possible to purchase any other crypto collectibles from within the Telegram/Discord chat.

The basic features of TurboWallet do work well, but some parts definitely need to be expanded. I’d really liek to see full support for crypto collectibles, together with extensive documentation about that aspect & more cryptocurrencies need to be supported if they want to compete with DiscordTip.

My final score for TurboWallet is 3 out of 5 stars, mainly for the reasons I’ve given above. This DApp feels just a little bit unfinished, to say the least, but it does work.
