How to Stop Worrying?
Worries, worries, worries! The day starts with worries and ends with worries. We all desire to live a peaceful life, free from all worries. Yet we worry. Why?
Param Pujya Dadashri beautifully explains to us ‘What is called worry?’, ‘When and why do we worry?’, ‘What are the dire consequences of worry?’ and ‘How we can stop worrying?’ So let us understand the science behind worries.
Thinking, as long as it does not distress you, is considered normal. Nevertheless, when you get emotionally embroiled in thoughts and when it starts puzzling, it means that now thoughts have exceeded the limit and have turned into a worry. You keep worrying without knowing in whose hand actually the control is. Once you realise who is running this world, we shall for sure have no worries! So let us understand this aspect first.
Everyone believes that they are the ones who are doing the work. But if you just analyse every work you do, you will soon realize that you are actually dependent on the circumstances. When all circumstances come together, the work is done! The portion of whatever you ‘do’ is also dependent upon circumstances. If one of the required circumstances were to fall short, we will not be able to do that particular work. Have we not experienced this at some time or the other, in our life?
Let us take an example, first look at the process of making a cup of tea. Make a list of what you would need. You need tealeaves, a pot to make the tea, milk, a cup, a strainer, sugar, water, a gas burner, gas, and you even need someone who can make the tea! Now what if one of these evidences were missing? Would you be able to make tea? No! Without tealeaves — there would be no tea. How about without water? What about without a cup? And what if you had all the evidences but there was no one to make the tea, then would we be able to? No. If in the process of making tea, you need at least 10 different evidences, then think about how many different evidences there need to be to make any event happen in life. You just believe yourself to be the ‘doer’ and as a result of this ‘doer-ship’ when you feel that you cannot cope with the situation at hand and become stressed.
Why do circumstances fall short? The life we are living, constantly brings two kinds of results to us, it is either a positive result or a negative result. During the phase of a positive result, everything happens as per our wish and will. Even if we do all wrong acts, circumstances will continue to come together according to our wish and everything right will happen to us. When it is the time for negative result, no matter what and how much we do things rightly and correctly, circumstances eventually do not come in our favor. The outcome is something we do not like or approve of. So instead, why not learn to peacefully accept whatever happened and move on?
In such a situation, Param Pujya Dadashri suggests we put our good and highly positive intent (bhaav) in nature for the successful completion of work, and then begin working towards it. To keep a positive intent, is in our hands and it helps attract right circumstances to complete the task-at-hand without obstructions. Also, in absence of worries, we can do a lot more work, and much more efficiently with greater concentration.
Nature is the regulator of the world, and it constantly keeps the world in regulation. The order and arrangement of nature is so exact that it sprinkles water on the smallest of the plant no matter where it happens to grow. Nature says, “Put in your best efforts to accomplish a difficult task, but without worrying about it. The one who worries is taking the reins into his hands in the belief that, ‘I am the one who has to make it work!’ And there is a punishment associated with this taking of control in your hands.” However, by worrying we attract obstructions that prevent the fulfilment of our desires by nature. Such is the law of nature.
