It comes as no surprise therefore that conversation skills are one of the most basic skills needed to function well in everyday society. One of the most important conversation skills for you to have is the ability to avoid using offensive or hurtful language.

Now the question of the hour is how can we avoid hurtful words and their consequences? For this we should understand the science of speech. Param Pujya Dadashri says that, ‘Not the words but the ego behind the words is hurtful.’ We can understand this with an example from our daily life that when a child says you are mad, we do not get hurt. But if the same line is spoken by our mother, father or friend we get hurt. Have you ever wondered why we get hurt in the second situation and not in first? The reason behind it, is ego. A child does not have ego, but as he grows up the ego within him will also develop and will also be able to hurt others.

Moreover, Param Pujya Dadashri has further clarified that when you speak irresponsibly or utter anything negative about a living being it is recorded. Anyone making the slightest instigation towards someone turns on a continual recording of hostility within that person. Your good intentions will result in happiness for you but never say anything negative about anyone, even when alone, because the consequences will be very bitter. So if you want to say something make sure it is positive.

Always remember that every word you speak has the power to hurt, to heal, to help, to hinder, to humiliate, to harm, and to humble. Use your words wisely.
