Philosophy of Contentment

Contentment is one type of knowledge. It suggests development.
A contented person has contentment in everything — be it money, or being loved by family and friends, or social status, health, professional fulfilment or achievements in life. He has enjoyed these things in his many previous lives. Therefore there is contentment in him; he has no more desires for anything now.

Desire implies we are not contented with what we already have!
Have you ever experienced that when you see someone have something, you too develop a desire to have it? This happens when we are not contented from within.

And the nature of desire is such that the moment our one desire gets fulfilled, another desire crops up immediately. Desires keep on arising one after another. And once desire arises, we are not at peace anymore; it keeps burning inside us until it gets fulfilled. We keep buying things out of our attachment to material world. However, material objects can never extinguish the fire of these never-ending desires.

Just think about it! Inspite of having so much at our disposal, we tend to lose our peace even if we do not have just one item. We become unhappy because we are not contented with what we already have, but instead remain constantly engrossed in thoughts of how to get what I do not have.
