Article raising the initiative behind designing towards accessibility.

In the past two week, we’ve dedicated our conversation around the topic of accessibility. We’ve covered a range of different accessibility ideas — from defining what accessibility in design means, to understanding how to prioritize severity level of accessibility bugs, to finally, the real-life implications behind advocating for accessibility in the first place.

All in all, accessibility is a vital component of any design project. It should stem from those who dictate and narrate the course of the project through acknowledgement and empathy. And even though designers might be the ones to guide and educate the team and stakeholders in regards to approaching projects with an accessibility-first mindset, it’s ultimately up to everyone to continue to champion for it.

Each and every individual within a project should be able to put the project under scrutiny to assess if things are working based on accessibility needs. It’s an individual-level responsibility to advocate for better usability, no matter who the user is and what their needs are.
