I grew up in a split household. One parent was conservative the other parent was a Democrat but not what you would call a liberal.
Throughout high school and half way through college, I worked for the Republican party. I was a card carrying member of the GOP.
Then midway through my 20’s something changed. Friends and family would fall ill but couldn’t afford health insurance or even co-pays.
I had family members that couldn’t get one type of surgery because they didn’t have health coverage. These family members were treated differently from ER’s to hospital rooms. A nurse or doctor wouldn’t identify them by name or ask how they were doing. It was always “oh you are self pay?” Or “you’re not covered?”
Seeing people you know placed in the hall of a hospital because they didn’t have insurance is enough to change a person.
When it comes to my political stance. I don’t care about much except that all of us should have a basic right to free or affordable health care.
I don’t want handouts or freebies. That’s not my forte.
We should help each other out when it comes to health. You’re doing it anyway if you have car, homeowners, or health insurance. Your premiums don’t sit in a bank waiting for you to get sick. Insurance is socialized already but the more claims are denied, or if you pay and never get sick your money is given to CEOs and board members.
Healthcare should be a right. It’s definitely not affordable.
