Video surveillance at a convenience store helped local investigators solve two cases involving theft and criminal damage last week. According to the report, the suspect, who was on probation, allegedly stole a fire extinguisher and then flung it through the back window of his neighbor’s car.

An incident report with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office states that on May 8, a Sgt. with the department was dispatched to a residence on Parkway Road around 11:50 p.m. When the Sgt. arrived, he spoke to a 26-year-old female who reported that someone had thrown a fire extinguisher through the back glass of her vehicle.

The Sgt. reported that he observed the broken window and the extinguisher in the back seat of the car without a nozzle or discharge valve. He also stated there was extinguisher powder on the exterior of the vehicle and in the roadway. The report also noted that the victim told the sergeant she had “no idea” who was responsible for the crime.

A second report states that on May 10 at 3:39 PM, a CCSO corporal was dispatched to the Jet Food store located on Highway 221 north in regard to a theft. The complainant told the officer that a man named Jesse Lundy entered the business on May 6 at 9:28 p.m. and stole a fire extinguisher.

Video surveillance, according to the corporal, showed a man, later identified as 27-year-old Jesse Wayne Lundy of Douglas, take the device from the diesel pump area and then fled behind the store.

According to the provided addresses on both reports, Lundy lives 0.2 miles away from the woman whose car was damaged by the extinguisher. Later that day, Lundy was arrested on one count of criminal damage to property in the second degree and theft by taking.

Documents filed in the Superior Court of Bacon County show that Lundy was on probation at the time he allegedly committed both acts for burglary in the second degree. He just pleaded guilty to the offense last month and was sentenced to five years of probation.

Lundy was still in custody as of Tuesday afternoon, according to a copy of the Coffee County Jail roster.
