Dwell On The Miracle Of Being

Thinking about the inherent beauty of being alive allows you to shed the illusion of separateness, as Thich Nhat Hanh likes to say. You are a part of the universe, and you never go away. You are both a material vehicle for spiritual energy as well as that energy, and so long as the universe exists, you exist too — in some form or another.

The painter Edward Munch said, “From my rotting body, flowers will grow and I am in them and that is eternity.” There is nothing between you and the rest of the universe; you are simply one expression of matter in the same way that every plant, animal, land mass and material object are expressions of universal matter. Alan Watts said, “Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself.”

Think of yourself as a part of an all-encompassing fabric of existence. Meditation allows you to reverberate with this understanding, to simply exist and be among everything, and to realize that consciousness within this world is a miracle in its own right. It has no real explanation.

Science can only go so far and consciousness still remains mostly a mystery. That which is inexplicable by all attempts at rational or logical discourse, but is also the fundamental energy of all life and experience, is miraculous. Find the sense of miraculous recognition within yourself, and contemplate the world with a sense of wonder.
