Sales Skills Are Waining

Here are some of my observations from consulting with and providing sales training to companies of all sizes (start-ups to $200 Billion in Revenues).

- Sales Leadership is typically “good” at putting a band-aid on internal sales team pains. However, the root of many problems is lack of training, communicating, and skills. In the end, if proper training and clearly defined processes aren’t provided then sales professionals leave looking for better leadership, communication, and training.
- Sales Professionals struggle to properly communicate their product or service’s value in a quick and concise conversation. The art of the elevator pitch is diminishing.
- Formalized sales processes are essentially non-existent (more-so in the start-up to midsize Co. range). The best processes allow for creativity while streamlining steps to formalizing and closing the deal.
- Sales teams quickly become stagnant and worn out when they don’t “exercise.” Just as our physical health needs daily attention and exercise, we need to consciously improve our sales skills and prowess.
- Prospecting is going to the SPAM dogs…and we as an industry are shooting ourselves in the foot!
- A majority of sales professionals can’t properly tell their prospects the relevant “stories” that are required to make a connection.
