Brett Ratner

Brett Ratner became a well-known face in Hollywood. He’s directed many films, notably the Rush Hour series and music videos for musical artists like LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, and many more. He had a long and successful career up until 2017.

While every year should be the year for accountability for wrongdoings, 2017 was the year regarding high-powered men, specifically in Hollywood. This was the year of the height of the #MeToo movement. Though it has been a long-standing social movement since the early 2000s, actress Alyssa Milano resurged in conversation in 2017 when she used #MeToo. Because of this, not only were everyday citizens able to feel comfortable enough to speak about their experiences with sexual harassment and assault, but those in Hollywood were as well.

On numerous occasions, one of the main contenders to be outed as a predator was Harvey Weinstein, but also Brett Ratner, by name. On November 1st, 2017, six women accused Ratner of sexual harassment and assault. One of these actors is Elliot Page, a now transgender male who accused Ratner of outing him as, at the time, gay (to preference, this was pre-transition) and sexually harassing him. This was done in front of others. Specifically, one who was able, and did, corroborate this story was actress Anna Paquin.
