Gig Young found matrimony in 1978, but only for it to end in an early death for both husband and wife. In what would’ve been both actor and marital artist Bruce Lee, Gig Young met his future wife-to-be, Kim Schmidt, while filming the Hong Kong film, “The Game of Death,” in 1972.

Gig, born Byron Barr, married Schmidt, a 31-year-old German magazine editor, on September 27th, 1978, at 64 years old. Before Kim Schmidt, Young was married five times prior and only had one child, born in 1964.

Before his death, Gig Young was an actor. The most notable roles that garnered him award nominations for 1951’s “Come Fill the Cup” (nominated for an Academy Award), 1958’s “Teacher’s Pet” (nominated for an Academy and Golden Globe Award), 1969’s “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” (nominated for an Academy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA Awards), and an Emmy award nomination for 1971’s television film, “The Neon Calling.”
