The Grandiose American Dream has a dark side. In its original conception the ‘dream’ was of a nation where the basic requirements of all citizens were met. Back in those days Americans were more often referred to (in media and in polls, for example) as “citizens”; now we participate more as consumers, even “voting” with our dollars. How does this make sense?
