Coding is basically the part of programming that includes writing codes a machine can understand. Coding is important for problem-solving, logical thinking, designing and so much more.

But where should you start? The aim of this article is to offer guidance on how to begin your programmer journey. The what to do’s and what not to do’s.

First of all, the only prerequisite for beginning this journey is having a laptop and an internet connection. Lack of these should be the only limitations to your progress in coding. In time you’ll realize that programming is just like learning a language and the key to being fluent in it is practice.

Programming is a series of shifting from not knowing anything to feeling like you have understood almost everything you have learnt. The stereotypical notion that one has to be smart in computer science is far from the truth. With the right tools and attitude, anyone is capable of having skills equivalent to a programmer who has many years of experience.

“The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change.”

As much as the entire learning process is figuring out your footing in technology as you go along, it is important though not urgent to know what you want to learn. This can be equated to asking yourself: What do you want to achieve? What is your main goal of gaining these technical skills? The answer could be as simple as, ‘A new hobby’ or more pressing such as ‘changing career paths’. There are many programming languages and ways of coding, hence identifying the one that suits your end goal is paramount to be time conscious and staying motivated.

With an open mind, there are no limitations to what you can achieve, as a beginner, intermediate and even a senior developer. My blog seeks to document these achievements and grow a community through easy-to-read, insightful articles. If you’re looking to acquaint yourself with Web development, the next series of articles will be a guide on doing this, focusing on HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

If you liked this article, kindly follow me for more insightful pieces. I would really appreciate that.
