Hi Michelle, thank you for writing this! I live in northern England and found year after year that I needed… something different, an alternate way of being in the winter.
I’ve got various strategies (cold morning showers, SAD lights, midday walks) to deal with the mental health side of things, but I needed something more.
That’s why, for the past few years I’ve removed myself from personal email, social networks, blogging, and writing my weekly newsletter. On the advice of a friend, I call this digital detox ‘Belshaw Black Ops' as it lends it more legitimacy.
Like you, I’ve found that allowing yourself to do things differently in winter allows an equally-valid version of yourself to emerge.
