Who is Sergey Sholom?

Everyone that is involved in the dynamically evolving and rapidly growing gaming industry have undoubtedly heard of Quake, the massive online first-person shooter which has been out for over 20 years and sort of set a spiral for the boom of esports events. Sergey Sholom lent a hand towards that boom and with his passion for all things videogame related helped push forward the growth of the gaming industry into the behemoth that it is today.

I believe it’s vital to dig deep into the man that is Sergey, his upbringing, history, and work on popularizing gaming as a part of everyday life for many people out there.

An entrepreneurial gamers youth and adulthood.

Sergey was born in Moscow, Russia on February 10th, 1978. Straight from birth, Sergey was an active individual, quickly taking up competitive sports such as Hockey and Soccer. Nonetheless, gaming always took the number one hobby spot for Sergey.

It was always a primary hobby for Sergey, mostly he was deep into Quake and classical shooters like Wolfenstein, but would play almost anything that had spunk. The hobby reached into his life so much that Sergey ended up becoming a professional gamer and forming a team that would later be known as DataForce. The team would then continue on to win various Quake tournaments with ease. Sergey actually to part in organizing a few of Russias very first esports tournaments.

In 2000, Sergey was accepted into the Moscow State Aviation Technological University, where he obtained a Bachelors degree in Engineering and later moved on to acquire a Ph.D. in Mathematical modeling and secondary education in Financial management, serious stuff.

Sergeys plan was to utilize the knowledge he gained over the course of his studies to built out a professional career as an Engineer. However, his affinity for gaming was just to strong, which lead him to..

Creating a game development company.

In 2004, Sergey Founded Datcroft Games LTD, a global video game development company with offices in Russia, the United Kingdom, Serbia, Montenegro, and Spain. They released their first game in 2007, but fame hit them around 2013, with the release of browser-based MMORPG Fragoria.

Over the course of the last 15–16 years, the company has grown to accommodate over 15 million players the world over and hundreds of employees. Datcroft recently released Pixel Wars, which has received much acclaim in the mobile esports world.

GNation and making a positive change in the world.

In 2017, Sergey launched GNation, a global project aimed at uniting and building a community of millions of gamers to pursue affirmative acts and change such as charitable causes, positive impact. GNation is working closely with the United Nations Systems to support the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
