Three Key Lessons Learnt as a Web Designer

2016 is speedily heading towards the second quarter. Today, no one needs to be told the importance of the internet or even online marketing. The web is everywhere and so are the websites. If you want to make it big in your business, you better have a commanding presence on the web — that is the mantra of success today. When every business is going the online way, the demand for the people who can support them get there is also growing. So, to sum it up, pretty much web designers are in great demand. But the community of web designers has grown rather too big and nearly to the point of saturation. Therefore, as a budding web designer you are afforded the thought if it is the lucrative vocation anymore. The good news is that it still is; the bad news is that it not for all. So, if you are planning to become a web designer, better see that you find a way off the crowd. The journey I pursued from wannabe to successful web designer, there are three important lessons I learnt; albeit the hard way. However, if you can let these lessons sink in and grow on you, you will definitely have it with relative ease to me.

Stay tuned with the latest and recent

There is no way to emphasize this particular aspect enough. Unfortunately, there are still great many number of web designers (or so they think they are) are still using old and outdated technologies and languages. If you really want to be something in the field of web designing, using the techniques from the days of yore will be Harakiri. It is extremely important to stay up to date with the latest technology and trends. Even if you are not really passionate about web designing, you should do it for the sake of making a living out of it. Stay within the hearing of any news regarding any update and new technology.

What is Your USP?

Let’s redefine USP here — It isn’t the selling point I am talking about; it is your unique stand point. What stands you apart from the crowd of the web designers? Have you figured out the answer to this question yet? If not, high time you did it. If you are doing what everyone else is doing, you are going to have to get really lucky to get a big break. However, if you closely observe the herd, you will find a way to tell yourself from them.

Promise less deliver more

As a web designer you might have already come up with a website that sings big songs about how good a designer you are. You have already raised the bar of expectations really high. When you get to dealing with the client in person, make sure that you promise a little less than your capabilities and deliver higher than that. When you deliver more than you promised, you automatically create a feeling of delight among the clients. This delight gets you more business as the clients go about telling others how great you are.
