A nice thread which runs parallel to this is how Amazon is side-stepping its failed Mobile device attempt and aiming to hit all functionalities of it from a different angle.

A mobile device is highly personal and OS manufacturers have been able to build highly personalized social graphs using mobile end points. Amazon on the other hand, with its variants of Echo (now with “vision” capabilities as well) is creating a different network, not necessarily highly “social”” in the beginning, but capturing enough critical points to build a still highly “personalized” behavioral graph.

While most OEMs are running an expensive race to compete with each other using latest flagships, Amazon is quietly outflanking them by extending its retail reach using cheaper, less ubiquitous but still highly effective devices.
