A good easy read about what really happened. Enjoyed the historical approach and your concluding point: Aesop.

These days I’m numb to push notifications and even emails.

People’s creative tactics to get you to open emails are related here. E.g. Subject: “See you tomorrow.”

Whatever.

I don’t really think Anti-Notifications is the right term. People ignore them, that’s not exactly anti. But it works. I understood what you meant and I clicked the title from email straight into Medium.

Notifications have been on my mind lately as I’m in charge of marketing something that’s still in stealth mode. The typical method would be push notifications to deliver a part of my strategy but it just doesn’t sit well with me.

I think a softer alternative is reminders, but they’re the opposite i.e. the user has to select when they want to be reminded. This is a pull approach and would have lower uptake but possibly higher engagement. Quality over quantity.

Thanks for a good read.
