This week, I received news that I will be joining a real estate company to produce videos and build out their brand. This is my dream job. A year ago, I would not think I could be doing something like this full-time because of my lack of experience.

3 things that helped me the most:

If I had not done these things, I would not have had to confidence that I brought to the interview.

Below are the platforms I…

Despite what state you are in, the foster care system is a messy place. There are many factors that contribute to the cause of kids going into the foster care system. The leading cause of kids entering foster care is neglect. These kids are the orphans fo they US. (Listen to my podcast on why)

As of January 2018, there are 14,344 kids in the foster care system in Arizona. This number is a drastic reduction of kids from January 2017 of 17,174. A good thing, right?

This is my therapy. This is my journal of the next 30 days before my wife and I leave living at the group home full-time.

511 days ago, my wife and I started our journey as group home parents of Gigi’s cottage. When I think back to our first morning, I am not the same person.

My heart, my soul, my body is different. Some for the better and others for worse. My scars are still healing. I would not wish on anyone the pain I have gone through. …

Intro

Over my professional career, I have had job positions that have ranged from insurance producer, mortgage sales, marketing manager, and currently a group home parent for foster kids. The journey has shaped me with a variety of different skills and experiences that I take with me everyday.

“We love to celebrate the touchdowns but we don’t want to start on the one yard line.” — Dallas Cowan

Background

The organizers at Impact AZ approached me to do a design for their 2017 class. Impact AZ is a collective of twenty non-profits with the goal of using their resources to bring a greater awareness to the ways the community can use their tax credit money. They will also be giving multiple grants to the non-profits who raise the most tax credit money.

As I was going through the list of non-profits, I saw that they were from all serving…

Doing life with people is messy and not for the faint.

When I became a group home parent for girls in the foster system I had a romantic view of serving. Romantic meaning, I would imagine the moments of breakthrough we would have. How the girls would be so thankful I had sacrificed my time and talent to take care of them.

I was focusing on the touchdowns and not thinking about starting on the one yard line with them.

At first, there were more times of rejection, manipulation, and defensiveness shown toward me. Who can blame them?

I was too young to understand what was going on. It was explained to my mom that her body was built like a high-end sports car where everything had to be working perfectly for it to run.

The hardest times for our family was when we had no idea what was making my mom sick. I remember…
