Since crime rate statistics rely on people reporting crimes, and on police filing reports, crime rate stats are dubious. In high crime areas, people just give up on calling police.

But violent crimes do get reported. (Robbery, forcible rape, homicide) Violent crime has been dropping over the past 20 years but there has been an uptick since 2014. It is too soon to tell whether this represents an inflection point of merely a blip.

To further complicate the picture, trauma centers have gotten much better at treating gunshots, meaning that you have to discount declining homicide rates by the the better GSW survivor rate.

IOW, don’t take TP’s assertions about crime rates too seriously.

And the TP assertion that stop and frisk was ineffective because no violation was found in 9 out of 10 cases — well, that’s just a bizarre take.
